WOW, harsh comments from people who have not tried it!! I have used it in everything I own, and it did not work to improve mileage, but it did lean out the mixture/ran better. (far less tail pipe soot). Especially in my wife Expedition which is driven in the worst possible conditions. BUT, it made a huge difference in my small engines, especially here in WI (re-formulated junk gas), the idled better, bogged less, and just sounded better. Our gas here is famous for gumming up small engines, and I still do use it in my small engines, but not worth it IMO to dump in your gas tank every fill up.

Hmm...Why would they have put a line through "No one has yet reported damage to their engine from acetone being added to the fuel", and why would a link show that Vietnam bans it as an additive because acetone is affecting the rubber seals of vehicle engines?
They put that line in because it would be a reasonable concern to have, so it answers the question everyone will ask.

Note, the Vietnam article states a "high amount" of acetone is blamed for breakdowns in motorcycles. First of all, what is a high amount? Second, referring back to lldsandsll's post, he points out that at the recomended dosage the concentration is 0.333% - I doubt that qualifies as a "high amount." Furthermore, the VN article doesn't go into any detail about the motorcycles (brand, engine type, age, fuel system materials, etc). One would assume that if they're adding it to motorcycles, they're probably adding it to cars as well, yet there's no mention of trouble with cars.
thank you.

i read an article also explaining why they banned it in vietnam. i wish i could remember the details. something about government intervention, politics, you know the deal. the same reason they banned it in vietnam is why myth busters busted it. on myth busters they never stated any controls for this experiment like they normally do. they didnt tell us the state of the engine, the type of fuel (where it came from, was it ethanol?), whether or not the acetone was pure, the present condition of the fuel system, etc... they set it up to fail. oil companies have a lot of money.

oh wait, i lied:

The government of Vietnam banned the use of acetone in their fuels. They claimed it damaged the rubber in fuel systems. But there is no rubber in fuel systems. In tires and coolant systems, yes. But fuel systems have n-buna and neoprene that resist over 200 ingredients in gasoline, including acetone. They wanted to stop people from getting a slight increase in mileage and hurt their profits--just like a capitalist oil company. Their oil industry is owned by the state. So they lied. They lied a lot in the past, you recall. In recent days, I heard comments that are just plain silly lies. Acetone is corrosive and will eat up metal parts. That one made me laugh. Acetone will speed up combustion and wreck your engine. That one is the opposite of the truth. Acetone will wear out your engine. Hilarious, because my 1964 Ford Econoline van went 567,285 miles after digesting more acetone than any other of my vehicles over a 25 year period. Acetone will damage engine parts and cause them to leak. That is odd because I have never noticed any leakage or smelled it in over 50 years. The guy who tried to tell me this stuff worked for an ethanol producer. One cannot help but wonder where he received his training, if any.
