I think I'll just stick with the Pioneer unit. Alpine needs to either bring the cost of their nav unit way down or come out with an all in one solution like Pioneer has.
Pioneer units are great, you can't go wrong with it or even an Eclipse. And, I agree with you on Alpine's pricing. It's a good thing I have the hook up over at Alpine. [8D]

just saw the vid, its the shift light huh?
Yup, a Raptor.
The switch is essentially a fancy 'blackout' feature instead of using a black cap.

Hey TacoBill,

I'm putting in a Kenwood DDX-7019 next month and want to do the same rear cam set-up like you have.
I want to be able to control the cam to turn on with a switch but also have it turn on automatically when in reverse.
How did you wire the camera's power?

Does the reverse wire turn on the reverse lights?

On the Alpine, instructions tell you to tap the camera's positive lead into the reverse lamps. However, even when shifted into Reverse, it won't automatically override what's on the screen (whether it's playing a DVD, CD, or AM/FM), you have to press 1 button, then select 'camera' on the touch screen to display the camera images.
I'm not sure how the Kenwood head unit reacts when the rear camera is powered up.

With that said, I'd just power the camera via a toggle to a switched 12V lead. If you want it on, then flick the toggle.

Thanks man!

Yea, I just downloaded the instruction manual from Kenwood, and I believe the unit functions the same
way as your Alpine, I need to press a "source" button to view the cam, and it is only available when in reverse.

I'll definately go with the toggle switch!

For sure toggle it. Watching the cars behind you on the road as you're driving is pretty neat, errr, I mean neat for your passengers to watch. [8D]

Yep, thats what I'll do. Infact, I'm thinking about using the dummy plate where the TCS button would go (I don't have), and get a nice toggle, or a very stock looking rocker switch to mount there. I'd like to make all the "dummy buttons" useful

That would look sweet!

Even a round LED rocker mounted on top of the dummy button would be pretty cool.

TacoBill... You are the man!!!!

I've been looking everywhere for that exact type of switch. I checked RadioShack and they have a rocker like that with a square base, and I've been
looking for one with a round base. I've searched lots of "switch websites" (lol)... and, even better yet, I can get the LED in green (to match Ford's)

Also, the Lorex camera you have, was the lens you got flat, or tapered?
