Default Radio Removal

Anyone know how to remove the radio in the 05 Mustang? I noticed they don't have the tool 'holes' for the removal prongs.

I'm looking to intsall my XM myself, and just need to get to the back of the head unit.

Any ideas / pics or instrucs would be great.

Thanks!

just get the xm with rf modulation then you dont need to wire anything to the headunit...rf modulation loses no quality becuase it is such a short distance..and better off yet no wiring..cept for the xm unit id imagine and hiding the antenna wire and all that

Default RE: Radio Removal

For those of you who are not happy with RF mod like me, here is how to remove the radio - I was brave and did it... will do it again and post pics - but if your impatient - here you go.

Open the center console and remove the two screws holding the center console in place.... lift up on the back and pop it off all the way around.

The two side molding pieces pull forward from the back and just pop off.

The first molding panel is held in by 6 screws, 3 on each side. Remove these to remove the panel. To get the radio out, you have to disconnect the AC controls (2 of them) One just pulls out.. the other has a harness type lift that snugs it into place... it is grey on the yellow harness, and you lift the grey piece up like a switch to loosen the wire harness.

This will let you pull the panel out and way, so you can remove the radio head unit. The head unit is acutally screwed in, so radio removal tools are not needed.

I will tell you that the FRDN-AUX does NOT work, but I have a FRD03-AUX on order that looks like it will work.

Will update with pics when I get it - if it works.

For the record - the FRD03-AUX does fit , but it still does not recognize there is an aux device connected.

In speaking to a PIE rep - they said Ford changes the wiring so while it may fit, it may not work.

Will keep you updated as I sink more money into this issue.

This should be a sticky... Or in a how-to 05 area of this forum...
Should make a subforum in here like that.. ONLY how-to's....

Great info! I am about to replace my radio and was wondering how to take it out. Only question is why do you need to remove the center console. I have not started to do it so i might awnser my own question later.
