A swap for an S197? Would be cheaper to just sell the car and buy a car with the stick...

Ummm. So why didn't you post the whole reply?
A: We would like to tell you that we have just what you need, but the truth is.....there aren't any kits made to do a changeover. It's our opinion that changing a vehicle from automatic to standard shift operation is a monumental task. To begin with, the parts alone can cost from $1,500.00 to $3,000.00 on average. Add to this the labor involved in the swap (20 - 85 man-hours), and you have a real job on your hands. But, before you can start any of this, you will need to scour the wrecking yards for every nut, bolt, bracket, pedal, bushing, spring, retaining clip, & hose that will be required. It shouldn’t take more than about 2 -3 weeks to gather all that stuff.

Here is some input from someone who has converted more than one vehicle from an automatic to a manual transmission.

First off - it is not very difficult at all. The key to it is - that you must find a donor vehicle that has all of the necessary parts [all in one place]. Essentially this means that you need to find a wrecked SN197 that is equipped with a manual transmission. Make a deal for all of the parts and you're off and running. I would not advise you to purchase the parts piecemeal. Look for a vehicle that has all that you need (console, etc.) all in one place.

I have never done a conversion on a Mustang - but from my experience - all mounting and bolt holes are already in place from the factory.

If you can find the right donor car- my advice is to go for it. It is a fun project and one that will give you a great sense of accomplishment.

Don't forget that you can sell your auto trans to mitigate the cost of the changeover. Also don't forget to shop around for a flood damaged vehicle. From what the forums talk about - they are still out there.
