2008 - Bad Fuel Pump Module
After 2 weeks, 300 miles...
I am on my way to work this morning, just about to get on the highway and all of a sudden I feel the car losing power. Am I in the wrong gear?...No. I am giving it gas but it will not accelerate. I pull over and the motor stalls while in neutral. WTF??? I try to start it again several times and it turns, but when I give it gas, the motor will not respond, it just shakes. I did this a couple times and the same results occur...shakes and feels like it is choking. I call roadside and the dealer. Long story short...service diagnosed it as a bad fuel pump driver module and will replace it tomorrow. Bad day.
Questions:
Could this be the beginning of a defect/recall on the 2008s?
Has anyone ever had or heard of this problem?
Could I have caused damage to the car that the dealer/service will not tell me about?
Welcoming all comments please.
Thanks[/align]

RE: 2008 - Bad Fuel Pump Module
there probably wasn't any damage to the car. I'll tell you what, I'm surprised more fuel pumps don't go out early in the process, every mustang I test drove at the dealership had the gas tank on E with around 20 miles left. Do you know how hard it is on a fuel pump with that little gas in the tank, the thing overheats, and to top it off it isn't even broken in yet. The fact that there are not more failures surprises me.

RE: 2008 - Bad Fuel Pump Module
good question and i say no.
the procedure for relieving fuel pressure in
the fuel lines for maintenace, has you killing power
to the fuel pump and cranking the engine for
5 seconds. this is basically what you did, when
trying to restart your vehicle.
the fuel pump driver module is located in the trunk, so
it will be an easy R&R for the service tech.

No, no and no. I'm sure they use the same fpdm that all the other years use. I doubt you did any damage to the engine unless it just happened to happen at wide open throttle.

You have to break in a fuel pump?
