ABS Braking

RE: ABS Braking
Under some rare circumstances, A very good driver may be able to best ABS, but for the average driver, no.
They do say that in some situations you can actualy build up a "wedge" in front of the tires which aid in stopping distances for normal brakes in "skid" mode.
so:
1) you would probably need to be a very good, non panic driver, that can keep his cool when a school bus pulls out in front of you and for some reason stops.
2) operate the vehicle in school playgrounds so you always have a built in wedge factor.
3) be capable of pumping your pedal some 10 times a second.
4) be so in tune with your car, that you can monitor each tire at the same time and adjust brake pressure individualy for each.
If it didn't help, why would insuarance companies offer a discount for cars so equipt?

Actually, ABS may cause longer stopping distances. Pure physics.....if you lock up your brakes (in a non-ABS equipped car), you are essentially "dragging" your non-turning wheels (becasue they are locked up) on the street. With ABS, the wheels keep rolling (which allows you to steer in a panic braking situation). Lots of qualifiers there (like stopping distances on gravel), but in general, your stopping distances increase using ABS brakes, but you will be able to steer yourself away from trouble, if possible with ABS.
