Default check engine light

Hey all, just curious... I threw a check engine light the other day while driving and am wondering what could have caused it. I had mid pipes and axle backs installed about 1000 miles ago and up until now no problems with the o2 sensors, but my speed shop guy tells me its most likely due to the pipes. If this is true I will feel much better but he also said not to take it in to the dealor to get it checked because they will just make things worse. I dont have a tuner or cai so until i get a tuner i guess i'm screwed? Also, if anyone has other suggestions as to what that light could mean throw them out there...

Thanks in advance
Mason
