Default Question About A/C Compressor on GT

My 05 GT continues to have problems with the a/c compressor. Earlier this year I had to take it back to the dealer for a new compressor since the original one quit working at 15,000 miles. Now I have 29,000 miles on the car, and the compressor has started making a bad noise.

When your GT engine is at idle, does anyone's a/c compressor make a metalic rattle or clacking sound for about 8 secondswhen the a/ccycles on?

I haven't heard new ones do it but is sounds like you're getting sludging. The oil builds up in the compressor and when turned on can't compress it su you can get a gurgling grunt type noise. It usually does it in the first am start if the a/c is left on when turned off. It can also be metal though the a/c system but that will usually always make noise as long as the compressor is running.

Exactly. Sounds like oil slugging , and/or floodback of liquid refrigerant to the compressor. I believe they have a suction accumulator, so sounds like its overcharged, and/or the expansion valve is malfunctioning.

Thanks, gentlemen, for the info. Is this a problem I should bring to the service department's attention; could it damage the a/c system?

You could bring it in before your factory warranty is expired. Even if they find no problem there will be documentation just incase it does go out within 12,000 miles of when you had it looked at.
If there is a large amount of oil in the system it can cause damage. Like sucking up water into a motor. It can't get compressed. Just turn the a/c off before shutting off the car an see if it still does it when you start it.
