Default 2004 Mach 1 vs. 2005 Mustang GT

Whats the difference in the engine? I talked to a fellow worker and he said the Mach 1 has about 310 horsepower compared to the Mustang Gt 's 300 horses. He also said the hood scoop was functional giving it more horses. The service manager at Jones Ford said the Gt would take the Mach 1. So who has the biggest *****. What gives? One thing is for sure the GT is a whole lot better looking then the Mach 1 and looks more like a Mach 1 that I remember in the 70's. [&:]

The Machs hood scoop is functional. By the time the power gets to the wheels the 5speed cars put down the exact same and the 05 auto puts down more than the Mach auto. The Mach 1 is a 32 valve motor which is 4 valves per cylinder unlike the 3 valves of the '05.

mmm.. i watched an 04 mach 1 dyno at 285 and 2 05 GT sticks at 269 & 265. also another 05 GT that was an auto that only put down 245. all completely stock. then there was a cobra there that put down close to 700. lets not get into that though.

i think normally a mach1 should win, plus in a few months 05 gts are gonna be so common, id rather have the mach. cant beat the shaker hood.

in fact if i can get a 2004 black mach 1, ill be happy

I certainly like the look of the 05 models better than the Mach 1's of '04. With that being said, modify the 05 GT and you have the best of both worlds.

Are the SC Cobra engines the same DOHC 32 valve that is put into the Mach 1, and the Mercury Marauder. I bought an 05 GT, before I did much research on the mod-ability of the engine. It looks like I have cast crank, pistons, and rods. I understand the cobra has forged, not sure about the Mach 1. I would like to do a Kenny Bell intercooled blower engine in the 550 hp range. I say this now that the 05 has given me the old accelaeration addiction back (been out of it for 10 years).

Anyway, If I want to build a DOHC engine to swap in ?? what way to go ????

nah, it's not the same engine in the cobra. the marauder does have the same engine as the mach 1 though.

the mach is not forged and neither is the marauder. the cobra is since it is built for forced induction. if you want that kind of power i suggest your forge your internals (ie. rods, crank, etc.) but a stock 05 gt with a kb will still have about low 400ish hp to the flywheel at a very conservative 7-8 psi.
but to answer the first question the mach is the faster car. it's dohc heads breathe a lot better than the 05 gt heads. and at this point can be modded much more easily.
