5000 mi. oil change vs. 3000 mi. oil change
So...
I was reading through the owner's manual the other day, and came across the oil recommendations for my '07 GT. It recommended using a synthetic 5w20 oil every 5k mi. instead of changing it every 3k like I would have in my old 4cyl Saturn. After I started thinking about this, I remembered reading that many of the cars on the road today are being recommended to run synthetic oil instead of regular motor oil, or even a blend, to get it to last longer than the normal 3000 mi. oil change.
Anyone else heard this? I'm going to run it for the 5k oil change like Ford recommends, but I'm also going to make sure I put ONLY synthetic in there - either Mobil 1 or Quaker State (the two brands I happen to have on the shelf in the garage at the moment, thus saving me some $$$ on buying the oil).
I'm just curious as to whether anyone else has heard running the car to 5k before an oil change with synthetic, vs. the 3000 mi with regular...

RE: 5000 mi. oil change vs. 3000 mi. oil change
that wouldnt be beneficial at all- i realize that was a joke, but some people think that changing their oil every week will keep their engine that much cleaner, and thus is soooo much better, etc...Simply isnt true there is a point where you simply get no more benefit of changing it
