What Is High Mileage on a GT?

What Is High Mileage on a GT?
The thread about 05 GT's selling for a low price got me thinking. Specifically, several members here have either stated outrightor insinuated that 40,000 to 50,000 miles on the odometer of a Mustangis "high mileage." If that's high mileage, then Ford quality and owners' expectations are at an all time low. I'd doubtful but still clinging to hope that my 05 GT will last to 50,000 . . .
In the past, some guys here on the forum have scolded me for suggesting that Ford quality and specifically S197 quality is not good. As I've mentioned before, my 05 GT has given me lots of trouble, and it only has 32,000 miles. The last timeI had it in for warranty work, theservice departmentkept it for two weeks!
I would liketo get 150,000 miles out of this GT since I don't drive it hardvery often and never race it. After all, my Toyota truck cost less than this Mustang and it has 200,000miles on it now. What say you gentlemen? Will the S197 give 150,000 miles of good service?

no reason it shouldn't. there is a sixer with over 110,000 with very few problems. I think that the 05's were a new model so they may have a bit more quirks, but after that those are fixed during warranty I think it is a very solid car.

+1 I don't think they were saying 40-50k miles is high milage for the car itself. I'm at almost 30k miles and I plan on getting an SC in a couple months. I bet a stock Mustang GT if driven correctly and not beat on all the time will last atleast 100k with few problems.

I think they mean that is high mileage because average driving is 12k per year. 3 years at 12k is 36k miles. In that case 50k is high mileage for a 3 year old car

Who only drives 12K miles per year? That figure has been around since the sixties and we all know that people are driving more than ever. The 12,000 mile thing was so auto manufacturers could maintain the 3 yr/36000 mile warranty and for that purpose only. Now the figure is 5 yrs and 100,000 which puts the annual average at 20,000.

OK, I see what PetePete, 05GTDriver, and DanGT06 are saying. Good point.
Still, I'm concerned about quality and longevity of Fords, particularly the S197, over the next several years. I strongly defended Fords in the 1980s when quality seemed to be very high. We had several Ford products back then that lasted well over 100,000 miles with little trouble, but the recent Fords I've bought have been more flimsy, more rattle prone, moremechanically weak than the Fords of 20 years ago. Something has changed at Ford.

if by "good service" you mean hardly
any repairs.....probably not, imo.
