Glassback Roof?
Hey Guys,
I love the glassback roof for the mustang and I was wondering how much is it installed? Also if anyone dumb ever trys to hit it, how much do I have to worry about it breaking?
Thanks

RE: Glassback Roof?
I talked to a shop in Rockville, Maryland that installs them. He told me $2500 installed. I also asked about the strength, he said its just as strong, if not stronger than the roof you have now. I think it's awesome, but it's too much gold for basically a window. I have enough trouble keeping my windshield clean.

The Glassback roof, as a whole, is stronger than the metal roof and weighs in at 14lb heavier than the removed tin.
It's reaction to heavy, localized, impact is to crack, muchlike a laminated screen reacts, it doesn't smash into a million pieces. You'd be clever to damage the middle of the thing at all but I imagine you'd be able to crack the corners pretty easy with a decent bash using a clenched fist although I could be doing it an injustice. It's just a feeling I have, there is some movement in the corners due to the edges hanging over the edge of the urethane bonding agent, which is as it should be.
CDC used their own car to "impact test" a Glassback. They had the car on a jig and swung a humongous pivoted weight onto the top of the A-Pillar. The roof was smashed but the cracking was limited to that corner only. It didn't all smash or come off or anything daft. The car was repaired and they still use it as a demo vehicle. They have images of that I saw whilst there although I don't think they've been released formally.

There area million ways to lighten the stang to make up for that 14 lbs -- heck you can put on Carbon Fiber doors which weigh in at roughly 6lbs a door as apposed to the 150ish it is now -- talk about dropping weight [8D] -- thats a HUGE drop just in that mod alone ... sorry to get off topic for that brief sec

bah i was into it until I found out it was heavier... gota find ways to lighten this beast!
