rx-8 vs 2005 mustang v6
OK,
2005 v6 Mustang = 210 HP 240 or so Torque right?
RX-8 = 240HP and 160-170 or so Torque right?
Given that the stang is probably much heavier, wouldn't it be a pretty close race? Anybody know what the outcome would be?[sm=smiley24.gif]

the RX8's are overrated. when they first released them, mazda was offering to buy them back from customers at full price because they didn't put down nearly the power as claimed. still though, it's a 14 se cond car, it'd be able to take you me thinks.

Having owned an RX8, let me clear up a few misconceptions.
I bought one of the first RX8s to hit these shores. True, Mazda did offer to buy the first ones back because they advertised them to have 247 HP. In reality, they had 238 HP (that's only a 9 HP difference). Performance figures did not change (0-60 in less than 6 secs, 1/4s in low 14s/high 13s). Until you've driven one, it's hard to understand their appeal...9K RPM redline, razor sharp handling, comfortable and quiet at speed. Fact is, it's about as close as you can come to an exotic car driving experience as I'm likely to come.
They aren't slow, by any stretch, plus they'll easily outhandle any Mustang...V6 or GT.
If I were a Mustang V6 owner, I woudln't want to tangle with an RX8. You'll be embarrassed.

i never said they were slow. i said they were a 14 second car. they'll give a 99+ GT (stock) a decent run if the GT driver can't drive. i thought the power was underrated by more than that. cause yeah, 9HP wasn't shat. no stangs dyno at the same shat. i saw 1 05 dyno at 271 and another at 267 or something like that. i wouldn't offer to buy a car back over 9HP if i was in charge.

They cost a bit more then the GT so the car is in a different class as far as I am concerned. Really if you think about it you get a lot of stylish car for the price of the mustang. The rx8 really doesn't have that going for it.

i like the rx-8 seeing that the redline is really high. I test drove a rx-8 and even though it wasnt as fast as my GT, it was easier to drive in local roads. Im also guessing its easier during traffic. Redline at 6500 makes you shift alot compared to the rx-8

I considered an Rx8 and a Miata. But when I saw the new Mustang, I had to have one. The one thing that the Mazda has against it is gas mileage. Autoweek and C&D report about 16mpg as an average. I have a pickup that weighs about 3 tons enpty and it will get thirteen. My new Stang is getting better than 24 with the V6 and 5 speed.

First of all RX-8 has 6 gears? Mustang V6 has 5... or are you comparing the 5 gear RX? If it's 6 than who is shifting more? My thoughts are you could start any 6 gear in 2nd and just burn up the clutch right? lol!
What would also be interesting is to see an HP to RPM chart of both cars to overlay and see which car has more power the longest, thru all 5 or 6 gears. This doesn't mean the one with the most HP would win the drag though considering that mass and friction (suspension/traction) is a factor.
I really don't know if you could say either car is "better" all around. I've not driven the RX-8 but it looks badass!
