How do ya get the MAF sensor connector off?

How do ya get the MAF sensor connector off?
I want to put in the K&N airfilter I got, but I cant get the damn connector off to swing open the airbox. I pulled out that red metal thing as far as it would go, but the connector wont unplug.I even gently tried to pry it off with a screwdriver, but it acted like it was still retained somehow.I didnt want to risk busting something so I'll ask you folks how to remove it.

Really? I thought you had to open the box a ways to get the filter out. Mine would barely open unless you unplug the maf.
