Default RE: Manually shifting the Automatic Tranny

Things to remember:

1. 1st is 1st gear only
2. 2nd is 2nd gear ONLY..it is not 1st/2nd
3. 3rd is 3rd gear ONLY..not 1/2/3
4. Drive IS 1/2/3/4 and 5th
5. Don't try starting off in 2 or 3rd...you will bog badly.

6. No..you don't "have" to keep your foot on the gas when shifting.
You can fake-out on-lookers by putting it in 1st...lightly accelerating
then lifting off the gas, shift into 2nd and accelerate again. We just
don't need a clutch. But don't EVER expect to "chirp" the tires doing this.

I never shift this way..onlyto show people I CAN (make it sound like a manual)

7. Pretty sure neutral drops are OUT of the question. At least I'd never try it.

8. KNOW each gearsRPM range. You don't want to downshift into 1st
doing 50..damn...that wouldhurt.

9. Manual shifting comes in handy when you need to downshift (for a better rpm
range for better acceleration) without having to go WOT to get the tranny to
downshift for you.

the car will actually be in 1 and go no higher than 2nd
wrong!!!!!. The 5R55S will start out in 2nd and stay in 2nd. It will start out in 3rd and stay in third. D is the only gear selection that will allow any shifting to occurr in the transmission.
(it aint like a turbo hydramatic 400 or a 4r70w tranny where it alsways start in 1st and is limited to upshift from 1st to the gear you have selected.)

My Mustang GT = Automatic
My Corvette Z06 (soon)= Manual

C'mon V, let the car do the shifting and don't do anything stupid to ruin your ride. I only use the low gears for steep hills, etc...

Your next car can be a manual so you can do all your fancy shmancy useless shifting...[&:]

Is there any good reason to have the OD turned off if you never make it to 5th gear? Aren't they the same?

As soon as you hit D, it will pop into 5 so lock it out. Unles you are racing more than 1/4 mile, then let er rip.

A tune can also address shift points.
I say just sit in the car and mash the pedal, don't be pissing around second guessing the technology.
There was somebody on here who did a bunch of testing to see if he could improve on the auto shift at the track. I think he beat the auto once in a bunch of attempts, so what's the point?

You bought the Auto because of [insert reason here] so live with it and be happy.

Pretending to have a manual? What's that about? Is that like wearing a dress and pretending you're not gay ? [8D] Only Ragging on yer

I manualy shift whenever I wanna have some fun. Start In 1st always. right when you get to 2nd keep acclerating and shift up, same thing goin to 3rd and D. Or you can floor it in first take it to red let off shift to 2nd and floor it again. It feels faster to shift manualy but i Have to test it out at the track. deaclerating down shift you can go from 60mph and drop it to2ndyou wont lose control because it doesnt let you make that mistake but its bad for your tranny because when it is in the right gear when downshifting your tires will peel out to stop. Im a PROOO when it comes to manualy shifting these things lol. Go try it out. Your mpg will DROPPP tho, good luck.
