It has happened to me once before. Oil filter wasn't replaced. I took it back and showed them my old date and mileage on my filter. I got another oil change WITH filter as I watched them. I always ask for bottled oil, nothing out of a dispenser.
I would do this myself, but I have psycho neighbors that call my homeowners association every time I raise my cars hood. No auto repairs in parking lots. I can't wait for their battery to die then have them ask me for a jumpstart.

As far as the oil change thats a great idea. I hate anyone touching my car.

Sometimes... you just don't wanna crawl under the car.
Find a good shop, bring your own filter, get synthetic oil, and do what I do... stand right in front of your car the whole time they do it and watch them like a hawk.

My first 3000 mile "free" stealership oil/filter change resulted in the
improperweight of oil and non replacement of the filter. They denied
it at first untill I showed them my signature on the side of the original
factory filter still on the stang. Then they claimed that the first oil
change didnt involve filter replacement. I left with a new filter and
the wrong oil unbeknownstto me. I discoverd that fact later. [:'(]
Must been a salesman working the lube rack that day. Will not go
back unless there is major powertrain failure covered under warranty.

I like the shop I go to because thier waiting room is in thier garage so I watch them. I would change it myself but it is too cold here in the winter so I just let them do it.
