Locking gas cap install?

Locking gas cap install?
I bought a locking gas cap like a year ago from some online spot that everyone on here was mentioning for it (don't remember where, but the site was very simple, it was really cheap and it says "Standt" on the box), but I never bothered installing it. With gas prices as they are these days, I'm thinking I should probably go ahead and put that cap on, so I was wondering about the install.
Is there any easy way to get the lanyard thing off the old cap and onto the new one, or does it just involve a lot of stretching and fighting with it?
I thought I remembered someone saying they unscrewed the gas cap in some way or whatever and that made it a lot easier to do, but I don't really recall.
Anyone done this and remember how it all went?

It wasn't difficult, same as the others mentioned. It was a little easier when I let it warm in the sun for a few minutes. If you don't have warm sun where you hang out, try a hot rag or a hair dryer.

I didn't want to deal with the hassle of trying to get the plastic ring off. Ended up getting a locking cover. Moss motors.
I have to take my keys out of the ignition to open it when I get gas. So I can't listen to the stereo[]

Unless the parking brake is set while key-on refueling.

Anyone know where to get a locking fuel door that has the car line on it? I've searched all the threads and cant find a link to one anywhere.

I just went to AutoZone, picked up a locking gas cap.. I just pop'd the "Ring" tail off the door and said pee on it.. It works.. I would suggest an investment in a locking gas cap to anyone.. Well Worth It..

Be careful with locking gas cap from AutoZone. I bought one. After several days, I noticed the gas mileage was down and the gas cap sign was on. I looked at the cap and found outthe rubber ring of the cap did not contact tightly with the opening of the gas tank. I returned the gas cap and bought the Motor Craft locking gas cap for Mustang 2005+. It is perfect including the ring. No more trouble.
