RE: hey guys first post and important question from a parent.
August Burns Red ROCKS man! Such a great band, hahaa.
Yeah, your son will love a mustang. I wouldnt go supercharged thats 500-550 HP. Not that he couldn't deal with it, just that he doiesnt NEED 500 HP at 17 years old.
(Coming from a young man's POV)

I don't think the mustang is your best bet for a "Childs Safety".
Why would you get a muscle car if you are so interested in your childs safety? There are MANY safer cars out there.

i dont think it is. im not going to lie, the lack of rear independent suspension took a bit for me to get used to. its not a very big car. the safety tests done on the s197s show they are safe. but for a first car, i think its too much speed. i say get him a buick.

You do not want to buy a 17 year old a supercharged Mustang as a first car. Honestly, a new car isn't great as a first car. Most people have at least one wreck in the first 2 years of driving. That said, the new Mustang is the safest yet. It has a great crash test rating. So if you plan on going with a brand new car for the kid, a Mustang is not a bad choice at all. But stay far away from the superchargers. If it isn't wrecked in 5 years, you can add that as a college graduation present.

Mustangs have an outstanding crash rating.. 5 star.. However the saftey depends on the driver. I V6 mustang would be a great safe car. If you want a v8 for your son you are going to need to talk to him about it. Its your call what you think would be the safest car for your son. I would STONGLY sugguest that you not start him with a supercharged mustang, the power difference is immense. In the end its all your decision, go test drive some and find out.

are you kidding?
you have to ask?
NO!
having said that,i give you props for being active, doing some research, and seeking advice...
think of the peer pressure to "see how fast it will go". think about it, no one cares how fast your mom's minivan can go. but a mustang... well-meaning friends will constantly be pressuring him to "show us what it can do".

The new mustangs are actually pretty safe cars. I've seen guys post on here with pretty nasty wrecks and have walked away wiht only bumps and bruises. If you are looking for safe then get your kid a V6 mustang, you get the great styling of the new mustangs with a conservative amount of power. I'd advise against a supercharged stang, i think that is too much for a 17 year old to handle. Good luck.

difference is about 100-150hp, and if it is stock supercharged about $20k. 17 year old... supercharged not safe. Supercharged at dealership...not safe and expensive. Buy private and let him get the feel for it then be a good dad and help him pay to have it supercharged. I have 2 2000 GTs for sale if you are interested.
