Ide like to, but theres no Pep Boys around here. Just went to Napa, and they didnt have anything. Neither did Motion Auto. Havent tried Schucks yet. I hope to find one locally so I dont have to wait on mail order. I did find out that if you take the antenna off, the radio wont play at all! The search continues.......

I too searched the local shops. All they had was the rubber ones that look worse than the one that is on there now.

Tried getting one off ebay and got screwed as it was nothing like the picture and was just like what the local stores had. Seller is now gone as I was not the only one that complained about his crappy stuff.

Anyhow, the $20 one from Mustang Tuning above looks awsome. It looks shorter that the 8" that is measures.

Thanks Graig. I just ordered one. I hope it doesnt degrade the reception too much.

I'd like to make the whole antenna disappear.

I'm wandering if a universal power antenna would work? I don't have my Mustang yet so if any of you out there know, please let the rest of us know.

I had the same thought... would also like to hear if anyone has tried to retrofit a power antenna.

I haven't received my mustang yet so that gives me a little more time to shop. I found this hood scoop which should fit the 2005. It's a reproduction of the 69-70 mach1. It's only $129.95, comes with the threadded studs you suggested, and includes a front grille so it can be made functional by cutting an appropriate sized hole in the hood. the edges would have to be finished properly. An added feature is that for another $40 you can add the turn signal indicators just like the Mach1's.

I don't know if car antennas are similar to TV antennas, but I once lived in a place where the over the air reception was crap on regular "bunny-ear" antennas. I bought a so-called powered antenna and it didn't do a thing for me. An antenna is a pasive device, in that it only receives signals. If you're not receiving a signal in the first place, the "pwoered" part of it won't give you any benefit.

The universal one I got a Pep Boys is longer than 8", but it still doesn't stick up above the roof, so I think it looks fine. And the reception on that one is exactly the same as the stock antenna.
