Steering Stop with 18" wheels?
Hey all, so I finally got 18" OEM chrome bullitts from someone and I was just searching online to see which model they came off of and found a ford racing site that says, "For vehicles with 17" wheels from the factory: -installing 18" x 8.5" or 18" x 9.5" wheels, use steering stop 6R3Z-3932-CA." My 2008 GT came with 17's and I upgraded to the 18's. Do I really need to get steering stops for the new wheels or are they fine as they are?
Thanks!
P.S - The site I read this from was http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts...tKeyField=8970

RE: Steering Stop with 18" wheels?
I read the same thing. I also upgraded from the 17" silver bullitts to the 18" bullitts (mine are silver, not polished or chrome). I also went with a wider tire 255/45/18. I had my Roush front springs installed the same day, and I had a slight rubbing issue when the tires were turned all the way to the right. No big deal. I only noticed it when trying to maneuver in a tight parking lot. I now have 5/8" wheel spacers all around and the rubbing is gone. I love the wider stance it gives too. The tires were just a little too tucked in before.

Well I want to be able to turn the wheels as far as I want to...but I did some research on these steering stops, and no one really seems to buy them or know where / how to install them...this is the first I've ever heard of these things...[>:]

I did the steering stops.........they worked great, I would not do wheel adapters, unless you are going for a look, they are 2 small spacers that go in your steering rack, then you would need to get aligned........my rubbing was gone.............I went a different set up and I still have the steering stops on........anyway, I would get them......rub or no rub?

I upgraded from the 16"x7"OEM stockersto the 18"x8.5" 50mm
negative offset OEMbullitts (mine are polishednot chrome).
I also went with a wider tire, 255/45/18 BFG KDW-2s.
I have not experienced any rubbing as of yet but
at full suspension travel itmight be a different story.
Note: For vehicles with 16" wheels from the factory:
-installing 17" x 8" wheels, use steering stop 4R3Z-3932-BA
-Installing 18" x 8.5" or 18" x 9.5" wheels, use steering stop 6R3Z-3932-CA
For vehicles with 17" wheels from the factory:
-installing 18" x 8.5" or 18" x 9.5" wheels, use steering stop 6R3Z-3932-CA
The steering stops go on the tie rods where they exit the
steering rack under the dust bellows?
Little plastic C clips that snap in place?

RE: Steering Stop with 18" wheels?
Well I just checked mine out and there doesn't appear to be any rubbing - no resistance or noise when I turn the wheels fully, so maybe that just applies to larger tires? I went from the Pirelli PZero Nero M&S PINNA tires (235/55ZR17) to the BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDWS tires (235/50ZR18). Not much of a difference in size of the tire besides the aspect ratio difference of 5. I guess I'm fine since I don't hear or feel any rubbing and not too many people seem to be putting these things on for a OEM wheel/tire to OEM wheel/tire change.
