The only Mustang I would buy built after 1971 would be a 03/04 Cobra.

edit: And obviously an 05+ GT.

the 99-04 saleens look way better than the 05+ stangs, IMO. and the 2005+ 4.0 (with very few bolt ons)is as fast or faster thana 04 GT.

The older models were made with Women in mind.

i went from a 04 gt to a 08. much better. every single thing....power, handling, steering, brakes, shifter, interior...

honestly the only thing i like better on the 04 was that its lighter and had a trunk release button.

talking about GT too GT here

I beg to differ in the looks department. when you have them side by side I dont even look back at the new edge. Yeah I like the saleens and roush from past yrs but still no match for the styling of the s197.

+1 to had woman in mind, my g/f has a new edge and it suits her perfect I feel like im driving a scion when I drive it compared to my car...

Looks are subjective...

With the exception of the Cobra's and Mach 1's, the S197 is a far superior car in every aspect.

I sold my 2000 Mustang for my 2007. I highly prefer the looks of the 07 over the 00. Much better outside and inside. Especially inside! So much more comfortable as well. I dont feel all cramped up anymore. When I first saw the concept for the S197 I knew I had to have one no matter what. I dont look back. Plus my '00 was a V6 auto with flowmaster duals as the only mod. Now i'm putting 300 to the wheels so you can imagine what a difference it has been to me. Same gas mileage too.

A few other things not yet mentioned:

The S197 has a three link rear end with PHB. The previous generation has a 4 link rear end, no PHB. Talk to anyone who puts their car on a track (road track) and you will find that those serious about getting the SN95 to handle are changing it from the 4 link rear end to either a PHB set up or Watts-Link.

The S197 platform is far stiffer. It doesnt require things like strut tower brace or sub-frame connectors to get it to handle.

The SN95 is smaller and and a couple hundred pounds lighter. Its cheaper to procure and, if you are into handling, there is far more aftermarket support available (perhaps because it needs a lot more). Lots and Lots of Fox's and SN-95s are on road tracks all over the country. For racing, it is the current platform of choice in the American Iron series. Far fewer S197s. This is my observation having visited a number of tracks/races. My theory: its because there are more of them, they are cheaper (who wants to ball up a 25K+ SN197) and the aforementioned aftermarket support.

My first car in high school < 1978,yes I'm old !!>,was a '72

I,like many, had to suffer thru the Mustang II and other low spots.
The 90's and early 2000's were the victims of
"The School of JellyBean Design", so when I saw the '05 it took me
back to 1970 and that BOSS 302 that started my fever.

Soo,back to your question, "Advantage S197 !! "
IMO......
