You're right - using this post as a guide line I had no problem - people thinks it's a factory homelink - I have no issue though when interior light is on, works the same. Just make sure you get the right one...rolling code or not.

POWER IT WITH THE HIGH BEAM WIRE AND TAPE THE BUTTON DOWN.
STASH IT BEHIND THE DASH OUT OF VIEW.
FLASH THE HIGH BEAMS AND THE GARAGE DOOR GOES UP OR DOWN...
Theives cant see the door opener so they cant steal/use it to
gain access to your garage.
Only you know that a flash of the high beams opens the ol garage door.
Most cars will flash to pass when the turn signal lever is pulled towards you
even with the ignition off....
Old School trick...

1. go to the back of the headlights and you find you high beam wire
2. get your favorite homelink and conect the possitive to your hibeam wire and the negative on your closest safe ground
3. program your homelink (hi beams on while you do that)
4. turn off the high beams
5. take some duct tape (or whatever) and tape down the button you just programed. might want to add a twist tie for added holddown (vasman had it fail a few times until he did that)
6. then pull back your hi beam lever and watch your door go up.
NOTE: try it a few times before you actually tape it incase you did program it correctly
I have gotten my homelink, but haven't hooked it up yet. I hooked up a 12v supply and did all the programming. The trick I found, for rolling code, was to hold your original remote VERY close to the homelink during step where you press the button on your original remote.
I'm toying with the idea of using the 'extra' buttons I have on my dash. I think those are only there on the '10s and '11s though. I have two 'blanks' under my heated seat buttons and two more 'blanks' where the HVAC buttons are. Not sure if they can easily be convered to buttons, and also not sure if I care to have the LED visible. Waiting to get warranty work done before I open up the dash.
