Default For those with Katzkin leather

While reading through the archives in this and other forums on the internet, there is no doubt that Katzkin leather seat covers are considered to be far superior to the standard issue Ford leather; however, one of the things that puzzles me is the reason why. Many say that they like the Katzkin because it is all leather vs. the leather seating surface only with the OEM seats.

I checked with Katzkin and they tell me that the majority of leather seat covers that they sell includes only leather seating surfaces with the rest being vinyl, just like OEM seat covers. While I have no doubt that the Katzkin leather is superior to the OEM leather, I am wondering if those of you who have Katzkin ponied up the additional $400-500 for full leather, or do you have leather seating only with vinyl trim? And if you have the vinyl trim, is there something about Katzkin vinyl that is superior to Ford vinyl?

Thanks.

Haha. This post sounds like it is too well thought out for people to answer it here. You actually did research, searched this forum and others... Does everyone else see this? This is how you are supposed to go about collecting information. Well done Sir, I hope someone can answer your question.

I have the Katzkin leather seat covers in my Mustang but I didn't buy them to get an all leather seat. I bought them for the color combinations they offer. Mine are black and red two toned to match my car. I believe this is why most buy them to get the two toned look. I could be wrong but that IMO.

OK, I think I've answered my own question. While searching other car and truck forums I found a discussion on the very thing I asked. What they said was that the vinyl used by Katzkin is a significant step up from the vinyl that Ford uses, about equal to the step up in quality in their leather over what Ford uses. Of course it is still vinyl, but if it doesn't crack as easily and you don't sit on it, I don't suppose it's that big of a deal.

before putting the new leather on, did anyone get new padding or resurface the seats? I would love to put some suede in for a two tone look, but I don't want any of the wrinkles.
