Why don't my headlights and tailights turn on when I unlock the car?

One of the top two reasons for keeping the fob separate from the key.
The other one?
Eventually, most people manage to lock their keys inside the car (some cars more easily than others). I'd much rather cuss at myself for a few seconds fumbling in my pocket for the fob than for a half hour waiting for AAA or whoever to get there. Undoubtedly, my wife as the potential witness to same would agree . . .

mean and expensive to bypass once your primary key is lost...
I ALWAYS carry a spare PATS stang key 100% of the time.
No need to keep the fob and key seperate.
I just cuss and fumble around for my SPARE key.
(I have not needed it once in the last 4 years of ownership)
