there's nothing wrong at all going with 45's. they may offer a better ride than the 40's, but I personally don't think it'll be that much?

overall diameters per rim/tire size

255/45/18 - 26.97

275/40/18 - 26.61
275/45/18 - 27.74

The GT500 has 18X9.5 rims. Also they run staggered from the factory with 285's out back.

As far as another post I'm thinking of going 18X9's all around too (so i can rotate as well ) and I think I'll go with 275's. Why would I put rubber that I could fit on the stock rims?? THat's one of the reasons for new rims haha

I am currently running 18x9's all around and run 275/45/18's. The ride seems pretty smooth and they seem to work well. No complaints here.

I've never heard that one before, hopefully someone with a similar set-up will chime in and let us know...

285/40 will work all the way around with proper offset

Isn't 285 up front a bit much rubber? I know that they use 275's up front on alot of cars but isn't there a downside of too wide a front tire. I forget the effect on handling but something happens whether the car plows, understeers w/e lol

Where can I get a 275/45/18 tire that isn't a SUV sport tire?

Is your mustang lowered at all? If you are at stock ride height, I wouldn't recommend running a shorter diameter wheel/tire combo, stock height already has a lot of fender gap. You don't want to make it worse.
