If the phasing adjuster goes bad, can it break the motor or does it just lose power?

Sounds like you have an exhaust leak.

Also why would the CANBUS reset and then have this problem?

You may have a leaky windshield and got some water into the smart junction box under the dash. Take it to the dealer and get it checked out.Pull it apart and investigate, I used an UV light, sometimes the water grows culture and shows where its coming from.

This issue has a TSB for Freestyles and is very known to alot of 2005-up Mustangs, your equipment will be useless in diagnosing.

OR !!!!!!

MULTIPLE VEHICLES - SULFUR BUILD-UP ON FUEL LEVEL SENSOR - ADD "CHEVRON TECHRON PLUS FUEL SYSTEM CLEANER" TO FUEL AND FILL WITH FRESH FUEL GASOLINE OR DIESEL.

VEHICLES MAY EXHIBIT ERRATIC FUEL GAUGE READINGS, ILLUMINATED MIL AND DTC P0463, P2068 AND/OR B1202, B2627 MAY BE PRESENT. THIS CONDITION MAY OCCUR DUE TO SULFUR CONTAMINATION FOUND IN SOME LOCAL FUELS WHICH MAY CAUSE TEMPORARY CONTAMINATION OF THE FUEL SENDER CARD.

BEFORE REPLACING ANY COMPONENT, CLEAR DTC'S, DRAIN FUEL TANK (IF FACILITIES PERMIT), ADD TECHRON CONCENTRATE PLUS FUEL SYSTEM CLEANER AND ADVISE CUSTOMER TO USE AN ALTERNATE BRAND OF FUEL. THE CONDITION SHOULD CORRECT ITSELF IN A FEW MILES.

ADVISE CUSTOMERS TO UTILIZE THE TRIP ODOMETER TO MONITOR FUEL CONSUMPTION. REPLACEMENT OF COMPONENTS OR PCM REPROGRAMMING MAY NOT FIX THE CONCERN.

IF CONDITION PERSISTS PERFORM NORMAL DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR. OBTAIN THE NEW TECHRON PLUS FUEL ADDITIVE FROM YOUR LOCAL AUTOMOTIVE CHEMICAL SUPPLY SOURCE OR AUTO PARTS STORE. EFFECTIVE DATE: 02/22/06

The codes will come back, your car will get worse ! In fact, the worse case is your engine being destroyed, if it has not got there already!

I think the codes were incorrect for some reason. When I unplugged the battery and then plugged it back in, right when I plugged it back in the code was there when I started it. I unplugged the battery again and now its fine. I have heard that those case give false codes.

If they werent incorrect and there is indeed a problem with the fuel, then what is it doing to destroy my engine? Cause I dont understand what that clunking is.

And since there wasnt water in the smart junction box or under the hood where the cabin filter is, then why did the CANBUS reset?

Sorry im not trying to shoot down your idea I just am so confused right now and I am really starting to worry about the car. Can bad gas cause those noises?

EDIT: Oh and I forgot to mention that I have never had problems with the fuel gauge before (it never went up or down or showed false readings)

I would definitely get a live running diagnoses, from ford, its under $100 and the CANBUS will tell on itself with a code or a reading fluctuation.

As we head into the future and start adding all these new Mechanical and Electrical components, things of this nature will arise.
