Rubrignitz,

I used some 3M double side adhesive pads to attach a small piece of foam as a buffer between the filter and the fender. I am convinced that I can fab some sort of support to hold inlet in place so that it cannot "settle" into the contact position. My wife has an Impala SS and the K&N CAI for that has two small metal brackets that use the extra threads on existing fastenrs to support the heat shield and inlet tube.

I can't complain about the C&L's performance, but I do wish I has spent the extra money and got the Steeda CAI which has a nicer heat shield.

This is exactly what I did and haven't seen any effects on either the filters metal endplate or firewall. Even with the camshafts rocking the house under there.

I wouldn't worry too much about a better heatshield, a CAI is a CAI is a CAI pretty much. Look at where procharger locates their airfilters... seeing that filter right up next to the engine block directly over the headers never gave me a warm fuzzy feeling but those are some of the best track s/c's..

NEVER USE COMPRESSED AIR OR VACUUM TO CLEAN AN AIR FILTER.
This destroys the fitering properties of the filter medium.

Use some old pantyhose as a pre-bug-filter and change it
as needed. The actual filter will last 50K or so if a pre-filter
is used and its not a 100% dusty enviroment. Beware of
overoiling the filter when you clean it as the excessive oil
can contaminate the MAF sensor and cause all sorts of
problems. Best to use a pre-filter and replace the filter
when needed and not clean and re-oil it.

I'm pretty sure the instructions on the box from Amsoil said to clean the filter with compressed air (low pressure) or a vacuum.

Its a dry filter so no washing and no oil. Looks nice too, which is always a plus.

Since I had to buy a replacement MAF housing (after stripping my 1st one), I am positive that C&L can and will sell a replacement filter. No idea what they would charge.

I think it's $40 on their website.

I also think it is a standard size S&B filter, so you can probably take measurements and find the K&N or S&B filter for it.
