yeah looks really good actually.. i might have to steal your idea.. it gives it a richer look. now u just need an in dash nav to clean it up and i would paint the back layout on the center around the shaker deck (forget what you call that plastic piece) gloss black also

i just took the parts out myself (2 screws under the arme rest for the center console and the the 2 side pieces just pop out) and then just dropped them off at a local body shop. cost me $150 and i told them to take their time and bury it in clear in case/when it gets scratched i can just wet sand them.
ordered a spare center console off of ebay so i wasnt rolling around town without a center console lol. so if any body wants to do this mod and wants a spare center console hit me up!

excellent! i just installed my painted console today too! i did mine in screaming yellow to match the car, and wanted to do the side panels and also the center of the dash (around the vents) in gloss black to contrast it. I was wondering what it looked like, but now i know it looks good. I'm also putting in Redline's shift boots and armrest covers (black with yellow stiching). Here's a cell phone pic of mine, i'll post more pics when my wife gets back in town with the camera. Nice work!
For the paint/prep, i just sanded all the texture out with 400 grit, then sprayed screaming yellow automotive paint from NAPA (5 coats), followed by 4 coats fo clear. It looked so nice i didn't even have to wetsand it
