My wife won a new house 3 years ago. I decided not to bring any old cars here and thought a new Mustang would sure look nice in the garage.I had been showing Ramblers for some time and had many other muscle cars since high school(I'm 52).
The new Mustang fit the bill, drive nice, handles well and looks great. I miss my old Ramblers but it was time to move on...so life goes on.

Default Why a Mustang?

Im a young 52 yrs old. Well when I was around 12 yrs old my Dad had a '65 Falcon Sprint and my cousin had a '67 Mustang Coupe and they would work on these cars (daily drivers) and run them @ the strip on Sundays, so first I fell in love w/ Ford cars. The whole Ford/Chevy, which one is better thing was big back in the 60's. Well when I became 16 I finally got my first car a '66 poppy red Mustang coupe. I ran the guts out of it, but man was it fun. My next Stang was when I was 18 going in the service I got a '70 red Mach1 that was an awesome car too , wish I still had. Does any one remember the horn being in the rim part of the steering wheel ? Ive had a '70 Torino GT, 3 different T-Birds, Crown Vic, F-150's and a ZX2. I restored a '65 Falcon and showed for 20 years and last year I sold it, So I needed a new ride and ever since that very first commercial w/ Steve McQueen and the Legend Lives I knew I wanted one so bad , So now I am the proud owner of an '05 GT with a/t, all my other muscle cars were 4-speeds . I just love this car it just reeks of muscle looks, the growl and Im a Mustang Damnit I aint going nowhere, sorry went off my nut a little In closing I want to say how cool it is us older guys still lovin and playin w/ the stangs but also that you younger guys, welcome to a very big club and part of history and thanks for keeping the legend alive

One day I was driving down the freeway at like 70mph in my dodge intrepid, minding my own business, windows down, letting the air hit my face, when out of nowhere I heard this tremendous roar. it sounded like a lion escaped from the zoo and was in my back seat. then I looked to my right and saw a freaking mustang fly by going at least 180 and it scared the living **** out of me.

i fell in love.

The mustang i saw was some 2000-2004 model, I started saving to buy one but later that year the S197 came out and I thought it looked 100X nicer, so I got an s197

well i guess i can join in on this.... :-)
im of the younger minority (23) and have been around every kind of muscle car you can think of... my uncle is the reason for this, he has had and still has several old muscle cars, ive grown up watching him and his friends work on them and eventually was able to help him work on them... he currently has a 69 Plymouth Roadrunner Coupe with a built 440 big block bored and stroked to 492 c.i. (freaking wicked *** car!!!!) with a 3spd auto, 69 Roadrunner Convertible 383 and 3spd auto, 73 Dodge Challenger 340 pistol grip 4spd, and a 68 Burnt Orange Charger with a 440 Big Block and a Manual 4spd... over the years ive seen Mustangs, GTOs, Barracudas, and just about any other classic muscle car you can think of... ive even owned a 1974 Plymouth Scamp (aka a Dodge Dart with different grill and tail lights)... it had a Police Interceptor 318 with a 727 Torqueflite 3spd auto and 3.91 gears... ever since i had to sell that car due to being unable to afford to drive it and unable to spend the time to fix it i knew i would own another muscle car... things have just worked out to where i could buy the next best thing, a new take on an old classic... in late 2007 i had the opportunity to buy a car that i could make my own and still have the classic look and performance i was after... after i had to sale my old Plymouth i drove around in a 1986 Firebird and then i bought a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon... i loved the Firebird but the Tiburon was a such a pain in the *** to do anything to that i finally decided the time had come to return to something more American and with some power behind it... buying my mustang and modifying it to make it my own has been one of the best things i have ever done in my life so far.... i never thought i would own a Mustang, due to me being a Mopar guy but after hearing back in 2007 that the Challenger was going to be so far out of my price range i decided to buy the Mustang and make it into what i want... i love my mustang and would not trade if for anything else (well maybe a GT500, but that is it...LOL)

oh and just thought i would add that i also remember the high beam foot switch in the older cars.... :-)

Yeah, and what a pain it was with a manual. Once in a while, you'd be in a situation where shifting and turning off the high beams could come up almost at the same time. I did this once in my 78 Firebird Formula and managed to quickly turn off the high beam, while completely forgetting to engage the clutch on a downshift. It was one of those times when I shifted perfectly...even without a clutch.

when the time came to finallly buy a car, I wanted a small car, with decent power, nice styling, around 5 years old, in the 10k range.
One car stood out well above the rest and that was the s197s
and as marv said, all the cars these days, they look like electric shavers

Can't complain about THAT combination. Who the hell needs Viagra?!
Ha!
So I'm not the only one who's GF gets wet from the car.
Whenever I get on it, in 3rd mainly, she says she gets close to orgasm from it.
Very hot. Could imagine the amount *** this car would bring if I was single

I got this car because it looks like the old ones that I love.
Always had a thing for the 69 and 70 Mustangs.
I was sold the day I saw one in 2004.

Well I grow up in the 60's. My best friend at the time had a 64 1/2 Mustang 289 4 speed.
I had a 66 Fairland GTA 390 auto red on red. I wish I had that car today. I also had a 66 Chevy II SS (wish I had that car today). I'm in my mid 50's and all the kids are grown, married and I have 5 grandkids. So it's the wife and me at home. I was driving down the road and a new Mustang passed us and I looked at my wife and told her. Honey I'm going to get one of those!! She looked back and said today? Well after some looking around on the internet and driving three or for I got a 2006 Windvail blue coupe. I've put a CAI and tuner and I'm putting JBA headers and dual exhaust on this weekend. I also put some Shelby Chrome mags 8's in the front and 9's in the back and Falken Ziex s/tz. I'm thinking about an 8.8 rear end with 3.55 maybe 3.73's

Default The Ford mustang is the best car all around

My reasons: I grew up in the 70s and 80s watching TV and movies that included clasic mustangs as part of the background, this weas certainly some of the reason. I suppose the other was the fact that the cool "rich" kids in high school all had either classic american muscle to drive (restored with their parents money) or they had a shiny brand new Mustang GT. For some reason I found both to be very cool and I wanted one. Sadly I did not have the cash and the opprotunity until I was 28 years old to buy my first mustang.

In between the 2 mustangs I have owned a 2003 Honda Accord EX V6. I drove it into the ground. The car cost about 27k loaded and had 118k miles on it after 4.5 years. The trade in was only 7k, while it may have been paid off it had a bunch of miles and a bad transmissiona nd eletrical system. After the Accord I had a Nissin Altima v6 SE fro 1 year, I traded that in when I bought my current mustang over a year ago.

Having had transmission, brake, and wheel issues with both the Accord and Altima I can say that the ownership experience was worse then that of either mustang. Both mustangs performed well and while the first one had transmission issues at the end they would have been both eaiser and cheaper to resolve then with the japanese cars.

For me the reasons for going Mustang boil down to: Reliving youth, Value/Price, Cool factor, and reliability compared to other brands.

Honestly in the 80s and early 90s the reliability factor was not there from what I have heard but from mid 90s on the mustang is better overall then its competition in the reliability area.

One other thing I would love to point out: I live in the Northeast, it snows up here. Usually I don't drive my mustang much in the snow but when I do I don't have issues with ground clearance and damaging the underside. My Accord had issues with that and the repairs themseleves were several thousand each for more then 2 years. The Accord was billed as an "ok to drive in snow" car... seriously... I give honda bad marks.
I'm 32 and have owned a Datsun 240z, 94 Accord, and a share of trans ams. I continue to buy mustang because they are great all round performers. Of course my 99 trans am was faster than any stang (except the terminators) but it drank gas like hell, had a lot of electrical gremlins and the v8 exhuast note was aweful. If you put any other aftermarket exhaust it would fart down the highway. I had a lot of problems with the accord overheating, and engine module shorting out twice! I had to rewire the 240z to get it to start.

My 96 v6 auto daily driver keeps going strong. 90,ooomiles and ZERO problems. Just usual maintainance.

However, no other v8 sound better than a FE or small block ford.
