Default burning smell inside stang

hey guys went to meet my gf again this weekend in meridian, ms. on my way there when i would down shift to 4th to pass someone and get on it a little bit, i can smell what seems to be burning oil inside the car. used to happen when i first got the 08, figured just new parts wearing in, then i didnt smell it for awhile and now its back. any clues to what it could be? i was thinking low rear diff fluid or something in the rear end. since that seems to be where the smell is coming from. so before i take it to the dealership i figured i would ask you guys.
thanks for any help you guys/gals can offer.

Maybe it's your girlfriend. Is she hot??

Something as simple as a loose oil filter maybe?

Heater core? But that is usually a "sweet" smell, more coolant related.

A shot in the dark, could you have ran over a plastic supermarket bag and it got stuck onto your exhaust somewhere?? It happened to me on my GLI and it drove me nuts until I put the car on a lift. Just a thought.

thanks for the idea. but i work at a land rover dealer and we all know those things leak like its there job. so i have smelled that sweet coolant smell a lot. and this is def a oil burning smell entering the inside of the car.

thanks. will def have to get the car on the rack tomorrow and look at all exhaust components. thanks everyone for all the ideas.
im also going to drain and refill the rear diff just to eliminate one source i think it is coming from. will have to check the owners manual to see what kind of oil goes into the diff.

I learned something from this post. I thought it was against forum rules to be a member of this forum and actually look for information in the Owner's Guide.

Don't forget to add the 4 ounces of friction modifier for a Traction-Lok axle. Good luck.
