Save ..then do them both at once and save on the labor ! I did and never looked back... with the DS the car just feels more "together"..its weird but it feels tighter !

I would say gears if your budget is not part of the equation. DS would be the cheaper way to go I think.

By putting 4.10s in from what I understand is that every thing before the 4.10s will have to work less . That would include your stock drive shaft . It will spin faster but with the 4.10s torque on the stock shaft will be a bit less. The mod that would reverse the torque would be putting on wider tires or drag slicks . a stock DS along with stock rubber and a 4.10 install would mean that the weakest link would be the stock tires .(your tires will spin once a certain amount of torque is applied .

with wide slicks and 4.10s I think that the stock DS would suddenly become the weakest link . (somethings got to give sooner or latter )

you are correct in your thinking. by installing 4:10's (or any more efficent gears) you are reducing the load on everything in front of the gears.

i opted to do the gears because i effed the rear end up at the track and now instead of repairing the stock parts, i'm having the 4:10's put in and having the bearings replaced. i am also installing a diff girdle support (diff cover) to hold everything in tighter since i run drag radials at the track.

gears will give you a slightly better performance gain than the drive shaft, but they are also slightly more expensive. not by much though. a good driveshaft will run you arround $700, and gears (if you pay to install them) will run you about $750-$850. the gears are about $170, bearing/shim kit is arround $180, and the labor is about $500 (at least where i asked arround at).

so if your going for all out best performance, get the gears, but if you want better performance and a tighter feeling car, get "shafted" lol.

Ya...I did, and would suggest that you Definately go 4:10's first over the 1 Piece aluminum drive shaft.
You will certainly feeeeeeel the difference with the gears !!!. However, if you can and have the $$ , do them both at the same time to save on labour, unless the brand of DS comes with the simple bolt on adaper. Otherwise, it's labour all over again, and that's hoping that you don't end up with any vibrations from a not too perfect balanced DS. It can be totally frustrating !!

Not to mention if you have a manual transmission I've heard it's easier to do the short throw shifter and driveshaft at the same time.
