fitting a 315/35/20 under a 2012 gt? also, continental dws- any input?
Let me start out by saying i have searched a lot and here is some general info i found:
One member (here or in tms) has 315's on AMR 20 inch wheels and says they dont stick out past the fender which is what i am trying to avoid.
i have read the back and forth on putting a 315 on a 10 inch rim and although not optimal, i know people are doing it.
I live in northern illinois but i park the mustang in the crappy months and have a ford focus for winter duty. I had pretty much decided on a summer tire due to the fact i probably wont need to ever take the 5.0 out in the snow unless something happens to my focus... i am actually in favor of having an all season on just in case i had to use the stang in the snow but i dont want to have folding over sidewalls the 8 months out of the year. There is also the benefit of the huge treadwear rating difference if the dws vs the sumitomo summers (540 treadwear vs 300 treadwear) so they should last me a lot longer.
I am in a budget for tires/rims and was all but set on 275/40/19 sumitomo htrz3's mounted on sve drifts which i can get for 1400 plus install.
.i originally wanted 20's but the lack of appropriate sizes are slim (i do NOT want to run a 285/30/20 as those are pretty much rubber bands). And 285/40, 295/35, 305/35 are hard to find or super expensive.
I was in my local tire shop today and a customer ordered two 315/35/20 continental.dws tires and never picked them up and tbe tire shop is stuck with them. Tire rack has them for 256 and the manager said he will sell them for 200 each (probably negotiable as they are worthless sitting against the wall).
My concern is that it is and all season tire and a couple of tbe reviews on tire rack said they have squishy sidewalls which i do not want. Now granted this is a 315/35 so the sidewalls are not all that tall, which should aid in firming up the handling along with the huge increase in traction simply due to the contact patch being a few inches wider than my stock pirellis.
Does anyone have experience with these tires in their stang? (Be it v6 or v8).
If i get those rears for say 350, i have the option of 275/40/20 for $270 each or a 245/45/20 for $220 each, both being 28.7, same as the 315/35. I could potentially have 20 inch amr wheels with dws tires for 1500, or 100 bucks more than 19's with sumitomos.

I have a 2012 GT as well, I have recently replaced my rear tires with Vreidstein Ultrac Vorti 315/35-20. I have 20X10 wheels in the back and the tires fit perfectly. The tires are amazing, I had Perelli P Zero 305/35-20 before these and they spun every time i got on it in second. (Rolling on to the gas helped but they were still not sticky enough to ever get full throttle.) Now, with new tires, I can go about 90% throttle in first, 100% from second up.
Stangmods has them, just type in Vreidstein in their search bar.

Kona, thanks for the input, that helps.
Drock, stock sidewalls are 5.1 vs the 315's 4.3 so its almost an inch shorter. I am hoping that inch shorter makeaitnat least as responsive as the stock pirellies (doea not seem like much of a challenge as the stock meats are very squirmy!)

315 35 20 is a big tire, it may rub at times if you are lowered

I am getting my numbers from a tire calculator so i doubt they are wrong. Stock for me (non brembo) is a 27.3 inch tire the 315s are 28.7 so yes thry are 1.5 inches taller which i am fine with because they fill the wheel wells better, will be a smoother ride, and offer more rim protection than a shorter tire on the same rim.
The numbers mentioned above were sidewall comparisons.
I have found a guy running the 315/35/20 rear and 275/40/20 front (both 28.7 tall) and he said they only rub a tiny amount on a big dip (front right tire) and thats dropped 1.5 inches on SR springs.
So now i know im good with fitment... now im hoping to get some info on the conti dws from mustang owners.

I have some of the DWS on the rears of my 2nd set for my gencoupe and love them. I should have switched them over this winter, but didn't have the funds to get the stock fronts replaced with some DWS's so I left the stock tires on and now I'm regretting it as I slid off the road the other day, but maybe better tires wouldn't have mad a difference in that situation.
