Rent or not to rent?

Rent or not to rent?
Well I will be going on a road trip very soon (around 1000mi), and instead of renting I have been thinking of just taking my mustang. Now I just had a SC put in along with a new trans (have around 900mi on both) . Should I still go on this trip with my mustang or should I rent a car for around $260 or so? I really don't want to rent, but I don't want to wreck anything by going on a long trip like that.
I will be getting a fresh oil change before I go along with possibly a retune for 91 octane (instead of 93).
Please let me know what everyone thinks - thank you!

I have to drive rental cars for work trips all the time. They suck. They're not your car. No one takes care of them. Most of them smell bad. You don't have your "stuff" in them.
I'm for taking YOUR ride. You'll always have a piece of home with you. You'll see the scenes from your own windshield. Hear your exhaust.
Cars should be driven and enjoyed.
I still say this even though I nailed deer last year with my own car on a trip X(

Well the trip is to Maine, which is only around 300 miles, however the last time we were there we went a few places - thats why I put down around 1000mi. We are visiting a few of my wife's friends, and going a few place.

To me it is comfort level. If my car was not to loud and the suspension plush sure I would take it. If I was confident it wasnt going to take a crap yeah I would take it.
Is it going to be fun for you if not then get a rental.
