Default Rear brakes wore out before fronts

My car is in for its 60K service. I took it to a local mechanic that I've been using for over 10 years. He said the back brake pads were worn out, so I had him replace them. The fronts are good, though, which is strange because these are the original factory pads. I've never had a car that wore out the back pads before the front ones. Is this normal for an 07 GT? I thought maybe it might be the, uh, thing that controls the balance between the front and rear brakes (sorry, can't remember what the name of that thing is) but he said that's controlled by the ABS system.

Anybody know enough about the brakes on these cars to shed some light on this?

I think the term you are looking for is "brake bias". Seeing how much more the rears on my 06 GT dust then the fronts, it is no wonder that the rears wore out faster. If you had a big brake bias problem, you would know it. I dont know this for fact, but I would say this is normal even though I only have 13K on the clock.

:-) If by burn out, you mean holding the brakes while smoking the tires, no, I've never done that. Not even once, if you can believe that. I have only rarely done a WOT from a dead stop kind of burn out, but I never have my foot on the brake.

I just upgraded my front and rear brake pads on my car last weekend and my rear pads are worn down more than the fronts as well. So you are not alone. No burnouts either.

Wow you have HO Whipple, Hot rod cams and 4:10s and never done a burn out, jez I would think it would happen by accident! You sir have some composure!

I think our cars have a more rear brake bias than other cars. I think thats why our stock brakes are slow at responsivness. a higher front brake bias should jerk you forward at the touch of the brake.
