There was an article on this issue several months ago...
Supposedly one of the most expensive cars to insure is a Acura RSX, Scion TC and other imports.

Not because of the value, or because of the blistering 130ish hp.

Its all statistics.

Statistics show that a majority of Scion TCs are driven by young and irresponsible children and young adults.

Insurance costs on these cars rose for merely the manner in which they are driven.

Quote from the article: ""Sporty cars tend to be driven in ways that lead to more crashes," says Rader. "They also tend to be driven by younger, riskier drivers." And smaller cars also tend to be more affordable, which makes them more attractive to those same younger drivers, he says.

"The Subaru Impreza WRX, the Mitsubishi Lancer, the Acura RSX, the Nissan Sentra SE-R -- these vehicles have the highest rates of collision," says Rader. "And age is a part of it. It's how these vehicles are driven."

I went from an infiniti G35 coupe and my insurance went down a LOT. Right now at 23 yrs old I pay 80 a month for my mustang. I also own a house and am married but they said it didn't bring it down a huge amount.

Theft is a HUGE problem with Hondas. Before I bought my GT, I had, and modded, about 7-10 Hondas over the last 6 years or so. Theft is such a massive issue and one of the reasons I left the Honda scene.

When I was under 25, insurance on my 2005 Civic Si with $500 deductables through USAA was $270 a month. After I turned 25 it went down to about $135. I had no tickets. I'm now 28, still no tickets, still with USAA and with $500 deductibles and my insurance is $97 a month on the Crustang.

To be fair, we need to compare both of my "over 25" rates. So the Si was $135 and the Mustang is $97. Even my 03 Miata cost more to insure than the Mustang. I think it was $110 or so.

Weird huh?

My '07 Mustang GT is only $5 more than my '07 Edge! I'm surprised how reasonable it is. Then again, it depends on your insurance agency. Progressive wanted almost 3x as much for full coverage than my local State Farm agent.

Think about it:
Bastard steals an 04 Accord, buys/steals enough wrong-color or unpainted body kits/panels from the neighborhood junk yard to completely transform the car into an unrecognizable POS, removes badges and identifying characteristics...hideous spoiler and fart can optional...wait, no it isnt!

Cops don't have a prayer of ever finding the car.

It's the ricer way.

Teen Drivers + Rice Wings + Street Racing + Crashes = High Civic insurance rates!

theft is the biggest issue and the mustang is also very safe in crash tests, that helps too.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as replica. I had an 11 second, daily driver, turbo CRX a few years ago that got stolen and more recently my S2000 was stolen. at least the S2000 was stolen right before I put the turbo kit on it and not after I put the turbo kit on so I didn't lose as much money as I could have. but after the S getting stolen I figured I'll take a break from imports for a while.

so far the mustang is a lot of fun and after a the Kenne Bell it'll actually be fast having the insurance drop in price is just an extra bonus

Last year I went from driving a 99 Saturn SL2 (got me through college) with a $1000 deductible to driving an 05 mustang GT with a $500 deductible. My insurance actually dropped. Makes no sense to me but I'll take it.
