Fist time to track ever!
#21
I have had my V6 to the track several times and here is the advice I would give:
1. Weather is a HUGE factor. If its hot and humid or if there is moisture in the air your times will change two or more tenths easily. Ask around to some other guys and ask how there times are compaired to their bests and averages. This can help to see where you stand.
2. I try to run my tank between 1/4 and 1/2. You don't want to have too little fuel but you don't want to carry a full tank either. somewhere where I mentioned seems to be good. That way you are not starving the fuel pump when you launch or shift gears.
3. Remember that you have a convertable too. Your car weights more then other GT's so your times stock to stock and mod to mod will be different.
4. Don't worry about the tree at first. Make sure you hook and shift at the appropriate RPM. The tree comes later. If your bracket racing you can sit there at the light all day long if you want.
5. Don't get discouraged! Have fun! I have never been able to hit my best again since the first time I went out. But that's ok. I work on being consistant. My car runs 15.4's fairly consistantly. Work on doing the same routine each time every time.
I hope that I have helped you out a little.

I just got off the phone with Bama and they say the tune is correct and to go back with my stock air box and tune and see what my time is and then change back and see what the difference is.

Whne my car was completely stock, I ran a 13.8 with like a 2.14 60'. With the mods in my sig, I have ran a 12.76. My best 60' is a 1.89. I have the nitto DRs and have a hard time not spinning. Some tracks are better. If you are spinning that will really hurt your 60". Try leaving at different RPMs and see what works best for you. If I leave at 1900 I do much better. Higher than that I spin. Heat also really messes with my times. Make sure and cool down after you get there, and between your rounds if you can. I ice the trottle body down, and put water in a sprayer to hose it down. With the fuel I run as low as I can. I try to have about 50 miles to empty when I get to the track. If you do this you want to make sure you can purchase fuel at the track, or be really close to a station when you leave. The less your car weighs the better times you will get. Each gallon of fuel wil be about 8 lbs. 100 lbs = about a tenth. But above all just remember to HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!

It was 76° anf the humidity was 90% and my alt was 2421 ft above sea level. Does this play alot into me getting a bad time?

THANKS EVERYONE for all your input really helped me out!

That's not that unreasonable of times for first time out.
Now that you're hooked, you'll learn subtle things like how to launch better, cooling down between runs, weight (less gas in tank=less weight), etc.
It's summer, too, and the heat is really slowing a lot of us down. Don't be surprised that with the same setup and same tune but on moderate different weather conditions, you'll get different results.
Keep notes of your time out, including weather conditions, what you tried, what you learned, how well the car ran, etc., and you'll soon learn what little things make little differences.
It's a blast, and just being out there heading down that short strip of road puts a big smile on my face
