Default How do you shift your 5.0?

I haven't tried to power shift in it yet but was curious if others have nailed it. Do you have to choke up on it or can you truly power shift these beast. Just curious.

Normal driving is like an old lady. Off throttle, clutch to the floor, 2 finger shift, ease back into throttle and off clutch, . Now racing... i learned from my father and adapted to each car. On my 2011 with the metal shifter ball about 2 fingers are on the ball the rest are below it, i lift a little off the gas so as not to hit the revlimiter and tap the clutch just enough to lighten the transfer then ram it home, it takes lots of practice .. look at youtube at either am or lethal's driver they have a pedal cam. That guy is my hero. Watch him drive their gt500 also..

It isnt too difficult, and especially if you get a new shifter like the Barton. Slams right into gear and eats it up! I agree watch the Lethal driver. That guy has some fast feet! Keep in mind if you are power shifting and dont have the tires for your power, you will spin more than usual haha.

Im curious to how these transmissions will hold up to abuse considering ford cheaped out and went with these transmission which are made in china because it was a far cheaper bid that what tremec wanted to do.

I have never tried to power shift my car. With all the issues people have had with these trans on the 11 and 12s it worries me to keep it floored and clutch it out. Maybe ill give it a shot at the track this weekend but chances are i wont haha. In the words of the great Vin Diesel "Granny shiftin not double clutchin like you should be" explains my driving habits LOL

Powershifting 1-2 is just pointless with anything less than full slicks. The engine produces far more power than radials can handle, and odds are good you'll spin drag radials as well.

I don't powershift 2-3 because I'm just not comfortable enough with nailing 3rd. Maybe in time. Powershifting from 2nd gear to 5th (which I've done more than once) is a good way to obliterate your rod bearings. More often I'll just whack the shift gate between 3 and 5, and powershifting during that would sound stupid, as it'd bounce off the rev limiter.

I will powershift 3-4 at the strip every time. The torque multiplication is low enough that the tires will not spin, and the 3-4 shift is dead easy.

I power shift 2-3, 3-4 with no problems on stock tires.
