I cannot legally tell anyone how to override the safety features and controls on their vehicles. Not only would I lose my job, there is a chance I could face more serious (legal) consequences.

In the interest of driver safety and those around you (and not voiding your warranty), I strongly urge anyone not to modify driver distraction settings on their vehicles. I'm dead serious about this.

I had bypassed my AVIC-D3 in my 2005 GT so that my son could watch movies while we traveled from Tampa to Atlanta. I was distracted so much that when I got to Atlanta I ended up removing the bypass and going back to no movies showing while driving

It would be easier to just get a hand held dvd player for a few bucks than to risk your son's life wouldn't it? When a DVD is playing right in front of you you will be distracted by it.
And isn't a DVD player in any front seat against most state's laws?

FordEngineer - I knew you could not tell me how to do it so thats why I never emailed you to ask. As far as distraction from the drivers seat...What about the dialing using the phone and the Display from the Sync, or Sat Radio where you can read the Song name and artist. or the Nav Display (Yes it gives sound but also a picture of the turns!!).

Yes it is against the law but so are off Road only Exhausts and other modifications we make to our cars.

Still deciding if I will get the system to over-ride the Display or not...but its more basedon Cost (as I still want some other mods), not based on distraction.

the 2 year old is the OP....now i have my Avic Z1/2 bypassed and i will also do the same for my Z110BT when it comes in but i honestly have never used it for movies. Only the nav part once and a while. DVDs are far more of a distraction than anything else that you mentioned. Its human nature to pay attention to movies or whatever is playing. Be safe because you are putting more than just your life in danger.

I would imagine on manual cars it's just tied into the parking brake handle. Is it just as simple as taking the wire tied to the handle and grounding it?

it could also be tied into the VSS signal as well
