not to be snarky with your IRS love and statement above...but I can't resist....you are implying that all vehicles and supercars 43k and above have IRS.....you may want to check your facts before posting that...or is it soley your OPINION that IRS is superior in every facet....again..you may want to check your facts before making that statement as well...depending on your setup and car use...live axel is not a bad thing...in fact a little comaparison : there are good and bads to both...thats why it depends on what you are going to do....

IRS can give you rear adjustment of camber, caster, toe. Live axles can not do any of that, but they can be set up to provide "rear steering" with an arrangement where control arms move the axle slightly to enhance steering.

o IRS generally provides a better ride, and a more stable cornering arrangement on slightly bumpy roads - however, it does not, contrary to common thought, entirely eliminate the hazard of a bumpy corner. Modern live axle setups don't entirely suck the way your dad's 1979 Parisien did.

o Live axle provides a more stable arrangement for getting down serious power, and doesn't tend to steer the car under power. Pretty well all the fastest 1/4 mile cars have some sort of live axle. This is also true coming out of corners - live axles can get back in the acceleration zone most or all of what they lost in the corner in road racing, because they will track dead straight under full power once they are through the apex of a corner. Big power + live axle = WAY TO GO

o IRS lowers unsprung weight for a better ride and less apparent weight to the car. This is an important thing. It also generally lets the car brake better if there's an uneven surface.

o IRS' half-shaft arrangements are a bit brittle in many applications. It's not uncommon for drag racers and high power applicators to put huge half-shafts on their cars.

o IRS can cause packaging problems, because more room is needed - which is why your Cobra Mustangs have half-assed IRS.

I'm aware of a few of the things you've listed. For the money, I still want that IRS!

F#CK THE IRS!!!

replica, we get the message, you don't like the Shelby...

Unless you road track an IRS car with race shocks, your beloved IRS ain't gonna do much for you on the streets, don't mean to be snarky, just can't resist.

The FR500C has proved that even on a track, the independent rear isn't necessarily an advantage.

funny because most of the termmi guys i have talked to at the track always bitch about the IRS and possibly breaking it.its a weak link.

do you think ford would go backwards on a car? i see the gt500 as a huge improvement from the 03-04 cobras, i love the 03-04 cobras but i would jump all over a gt500 if i could swing it.

For drag racing, you want a solid axle actually.
It's a stronger set-up, that's why the Termie guys are yanking them out.
By the time you get close to 600hp, the half shaves are giving up.
