2005-2006 Ford Mustang S197 Partial History article

The main reason I bought my 2006 was because of the blunt nose and tail. It screams "muscle". I can't say I don't like the 2010's but I'm not sure of what I see as a "sports" car look. The nose isn't bad. The tail end is still hard for me to get my arms around. Not sure why ford thought they needed to angle it like they did. If I was going to buy another one I have to say it would be a 2005-2009 model.

After selling my '82 GT five years ago I waited and wanted for the new 2005-2009 Mustang. It was a dream come true for a kid who grew up looking and admiring the '69 Mustangs.
I do feel there will be a place in Ford History for the 2005-2009 Mustang. The retro lines reminiscing the late '60s was perfect timing for this day and age. It got baby-boomers like me to finally want a Mustang again! It made Chevy and Dodge want back into the game as well!

69 is by far the best looking Mustang ever produced, and the Boss 429 for that year is the baddest Mustang, in my opinion, ever produced.
With that being said, the 2010 has more 69 styling cues than the 05-09 do.

Only sad part is the 2005-2009 mustang follows the lines more of the '66 mustang than it does the '69

The 2005-2009 are a lot closer to it than the 2010 IMO.
I do agree, the 1969 Boss Mustang was the baddest Mustang of them all!

2005-2009 Mustangs are 2nd best ever!
Where does the S197 rank amongst Mustangs?
Second best to the 65-69 Mustangs.
How do you view the 2010 styling cues?
I think the 2010's, though less retro, look great inside and outside.. except the rear end. But the rear's not nearly as bad looking as the 2010 Camaro! Ford needs to change the rear of Mustang for 2011; It just doesn't look right. Just a little tweaking would really help.
What should come next?
Ford needs to always keep the Mustang identity they rediscovered in 2005. Of course, the new 5.0 Coyote and a more powerful V6 are already coming. They should use the tail lights on the S197 concept car for the GT500.
Ford got it right in 2005. They have to ignore the critics and keep it a 2+2 fastback. Who cares about the backseat? I've carried four adults when I really had to, but it's a 2+2 and should stay that way.
What about a coupe version, like they had in the 60's? Coupe, convertible, and fastback again?
In 2015, the 2005 Mustangs will still look great. In 2020, the 2010 Camaros will look dated and trendy.
Go Ford!!!

I've been a Mustang fan for as long as I can remember and when the S197's came out I fell in love again. I have an '05 V6 (auto) and love it. I was excited when I heard that Ford was going to redesign the 2010. I was like a child waiting for a Christmas present. When it was finally revealed in April... I actually felt like someone let the air out of my sails. It just didn't give me the same affect of when the s197 was first revealed. Front end looks great, but when they showed the rear end I was quite disappointed... I was like "WTF is that??!" But you know what? It's still a Mustang.
I've never owned a V8 before. All my previous cars have either been 4 bangers or sixes and foreign (except for my '05, of course). I went ahead and test drove the 2010 GT. I can't say I had the same enthusiam and excitement of when I got the '05, but I was still excited that I may be owning a V8 Mustang. I test drove the AT GT and loved the way it handled. My hubs test drove the MT GT. Only because I didn't know how to drive a manual (yet). Well, I loved how it sounded.... to make a long story short. I got it... and in a manual. The rear-end is definitely different, but I'm starting to like it. It's all its own... And yes, I still have my '05. I definitely can't get rid of my first Mustang. I'm still in love with it, and I still can't believe I own two (what the hell's wrong with me?).
