Default S197 Trunk Shelf

I seen this in a car at a show one day. I finally found out who makes it. It is a shelf that goes in the trunk between wheel wells. I looks really good and cleans up the looks of the inside of the trunk. The bad thing is it doesn't fit if you have a Shaker 1000 stereo. It is $75 plus shipping from R&A Motorsports. Here is their web site.

Looks nice but you could make one for 1/3 of that cost. 3/4" MDF or particle board and speaker enclosure carpet from any fabric store. A Jig Saw, a cordless screw driver, some Upholstery adhesive and a staple gun.

I used to make custom trunk amp racks and such. Its not that hard. Just have to take some measurements and use a cardboard machup if you're not sure of what you're doing so you don't ruin the MDF or Particle board trying to get it right. Small mistakes will/can be hidden by the carpet.

This is for the not so handy or don't have tools, shop or time.

Oh, yes you could. Actually, I'm quite surprised at the amount of crap I've been able to stuff in our S197 trunk. That included a set of golf clubs with a hand cart, 4 pieces of luggage (1 was mine, 3 were my g/f's... we ALL know how that works) plus all the other garbage we needed to support a 10 day road trip.

My '78 Camaro had less than 1/2 the room. My '66 Pontiac Executive's trunk was cavernous by comparison to either.

I think it makes the trunk look cleaner especially if you show your car. I know how things don't like to stay in that hump back there. With this piece, things can stay put instead of sliding down.
