I thought I was being ignored because I haven't received any emails that I've had replies. Then I come here now to check and see lots of responses.

Thanks everyone!

Yeah, I want the 3.73 and to add the limited slip. I may do more to the engine later, so I think 4.10s might be too much after other mods.

I'll contact American Muscle. They appear much more reasonable than what my dealer quoted.

Be careful when posting, the web site defaults to "No Notification" on an initial post.

Do the '10s come without LS? I thought all S197s came with the Ford TracLoc?

Another thought if you want to save yourself the mess of tearing apart a rear end is to get a new complete takeoff rear end. $849 at this site:

From what I read before Bob the pinion bearing gets messed up when taking it off the pinion. So I just bought the 15 dollar peace of mind.

If you're going to make some serious power additions in the future then please replace the factory 8.8 with something stronger.

Here are some rusty photos of an 8.8 carrier I took out of my 6K lb 4x4 Ford truck a few years ago. they're rusty since I left them out while I waited for our digital camera to be repaired. I took one out of a 5K lb. Bronco a few years earlier that looked similar.

In these photos, please note the white chalk. This is all of the metal that holds the two sides of the carrier together. The area where the right side clutches go appears to be machined down and weakened to make the clutch plates fit. In both cases for me cracks appear to have developed where they machined the notches for the dog ears on the clutches. It just took the right amount of stress to open these things up like a clamshell. In photo .005 you can see how the cracks developed.

I also have the option to buy the parts anywhere, in case they have too big of a mark-up.

They've quoted me $552.48 for the gears (8R3Z-4209-E) and $515.81 for LS (no part number).

Are these the right parts and where can I get the best deal?
Why didn't you get the factory track pak, it comes with 3.73 gears from the factory

Centurion96, I double-checked it when I posted, but still didn't get any notifications. I finally did today however. I run my own vBulletin forum for my company, but mine never acted this way.

2cokeman, it wasn't available in the car on the lot. I had another car I had to trade and quickly, so I had to take the best of what I could find. This Mustang was it, except the gearing, which can be fixed.
