Default Hurst shifter / S197 recall. 2 questions.

I tryed doing a search for it but had no results.

1. My hurst shifter rattles when i am at high RPM's. I lubed up the bearing underneath the rubber boot already. What else do i have to do.

2. There is a buzzing in my exhaust. I read a thread a while back and there was a recall on the s197's for some kind of plate between the engine and trans. I might pull my F'ing hair out if i have to listen to it again.

Did you check all your bolts? They might need to be tightened. Did you use loctite on the bolts?

I tightened the two bolts at the bottom of the shaft and maybe got a qtr turn out of the bottom bolt. when i shift it feels like something from the bottom of the shifter is knocking into something else.

Just throwing this out there but do you have a driveshaft loop?

Please search the forum for "hurst shifter." There is probably 23,544+ posts on this subject, including a fix.

I think they fixed the problem with the plate on the 08.

Easy way to tell if your shifter qual;ifies for warrenty by Hurst... When you pull up on the handle, is there any play? If so, then the bearing is bad and Hurst will give you a new shifter, provided you can produce the original reciept for the shifter. Give a call to their tech-line and they can help you with it.

when you lubed the shifter, did you use the gun oil stuff?

or just a regular run of the mill oil?

and did you check all the bolts + use loctite with them?

I suggest you do a search of the forums. There are 2 popular fixes for the Hurst Death Rattle.
1. The oil...have to re-apply periodically...but is the cheapest, and apparently most effective method.

2. https://mustangforums.com/forum/2005...g-hurst-3.html
I just bought a used Hurst from a member here on the forum. Should get it tomorrow. He said it had the Death Rattle, so I will be doing step #1 immediately, and might do #2 as well just for good measure.

Good luck. Hopefully you have your original reciept and can get Hurst to send you the upgraded version under Warranty though
