Default New 2011 GT Better be faster than a Jeep!

Don't know if you saw the Jan issue of Car and Driver. They tested the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, the BMW X5M, LandRover Sport and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S. All large mammoths weighting in at least 4768 pounds and all faster than 5.2 sec 0 - 60! The current 2010 GT does it in around 5.2 secs.

The Jeep has a 420 hp engine and weighs in at 4768 pounds and did 0 - 60 in 4.4 secs! Since the new 2011 GT 5.0l suppose to have at least 400hp, if the new Mustang GT 5.0l doesn't do better than a Jeep 0 - 60, Ford will have a serious problem! And if you read Car/Drive/ Road/Track and others you see alot of cars beating the Mustang 0 -60 with engines in the 400 hp range.

So now if you come up to a light with a Jeep SRT8, don't bother. He'll blow your doors off! 8-(

Personally, I have never bought into cars that are traditionally family type cars all of the sudden getting a strong set of legs.

Yeah, it may go a little faster straight ahead, but would really buy it over a sports car? Really?

Even though it weighs a crap ton more than a Mustang, the SRT8 Jeep has all-wheel drive and fat grippy tires. It will help the SUV get off the line pretty quick and with a lot more ease. I hope the 2011 is faster too, but that has to be taken into consideration when comparing two vastly different cars and only looking at 0-60 times.

They also cost a lot more than a Mustang and I would assume the Mustang would come around them on the big end

ok, so now you're comparing Mustangs to soccer mommy mobiles????

Apples & Oranges!

Anyone here want to spend over $20,000 more to buy something that's a roll over danger?

WTF is this ****? A Jeep is supposed to be an off road vehicle. Being fast on the street is losing focus of what a Jeep was designed for and makes about as much sense as making a Prius a performance vehicle. Same goes for trucks. It's for working/hauling FFS!

Chrysler totally ruined the Jeep brand by turning away from the hardcore off-road type it used to be to this oh look at me I'm a cool soccer mom thing.

If I had a jeep I can guarantee it would not be fast. But it would have the low end power to muck through deep mud and climb a freaking wall..you know, what a Jeep is SUPPOSED to be able to do. It would also be an early 80's CJ-7 or similar.

The Hummer brand was also screwed up thanks to the H2 and H3. The brand went from being this ultimate off road machine to a hey look at how much money I have thing...and the vehicles (H2 and H3) suffered for it with very poor off road performance.

Lame.

(BTW, this is not the first time I heard about the Jeep SRT8 in-case it may sound that way)

well my uncle just got a wrangler and that thing is pretty offroad capable, i think even though Jeep is supposed to be offroad, it shouldnt mean they cant make a cool onroad performance car

Hey now! I have a 08 Wrangler Rubicon, it will go just about anywhere, except fast! I can leave my parking brake on in the Mustang and still beat the Jeep in reverse!
