Default Bad Speed sensor?

I'll just get straight to the point since i'm tired and want to go to bed...

Drove 3 hours... noticed my Speedometer was jumping around. Would go from 45 to 20 to 30 to 60 to 20 all while I was coasting in neutral. It's pretty entertaining to watch... but I want it to go away.

Most Likely cause? And how do I fix it?

My guess is bad speed sensor... probably calling it the wrong thing, and I don't know where it is, how to replace it or how much it costs.

Part numbers would be helpful too if anyone has them :-)

The speedo itself has gone bad in my '05 so I can't say that it's the speed sensor for sure. I've just been using my Kenwood Nav system I put in to know my speed. I don't know if these cars even have a specific speed sensor or if it works somehow off the abs rings on the wheels.

It sounds like a bad speed sensor to me. I believe it is inside the transmission so a tech will prob. have to replace unless you know what you are doing.

The part is called a speed sensor though. I can almost guarantee it will have to comes from the dealership.

I don't believe it is that expensive though. Around $50 I'd estimate.

The speed sensor is at the rear. It's a $14 part. There was a write up somewhere on the web that showed it. I'll go find it and post it in here later.

The problem hasn't come back tho... and I just did a 4 hour drive. But that one day it was happening a lot.

I might replace the part anyway... just to be sure. Or i'll just buy the part and hold on to it and see if it does it again.

This is a gear swap write up... but on pic 10 they show the speed sensor. It would just be a matter of swapping that part. I think.

actually looking more into... it looks like that part is for the ABS only... I think I found the right part tho.

7H103, $23 and it attachs to the transmission... looks like on the driver's side, just below where the shift linkage attaches to.

Sweet 23.00 is easy... The same part for my wife's Audi was more like 150-200 if I remember correct.

Default speed sensor

Speed control sensor is $18 at orielly's and is located on the rear for the tranny. 5 minute job, hardest part for me was the retainer didnt want to go back in right.
