how sure of this are you guys?

Ford has a history of only providing extra wire harnesses when they will be used...or on higher end trims.

My F-150 and Expedition are classic examples of this. My buddy has a XLT (pretty much no options) F-150 and I had a FX4 w/ Luxury package. My truck was wired for everything that Ford offered, but his only had power locks/windows for wiring. He had none of the extra pigtails my truck had. Both were Supercrew and 2006.

I recently installed a Double Din radio in my Expy and this is the radio I pulled out of it.

the center plug is the steering wheel controls. left plug is the iPod connection and the far right is the power/speakers. now I know you 2010+ guys have different radios, but the basic pigtails are the same according to Metra. it still uses the same 5520 harness that my F-150, Expy and 2009 Mustang uses.

Non-premium radios don't have the center plug for the steering wheel controls...nor does the truck have the wiring harness.

I guess what I'm getting at is...has anybody actually verified that they actually have the steering wheel controls in their wire loom at the radio itself? I can see where Ford might have made the controls part of the CAN system...but there is no point. And Ford loves to keep utilizing the same systems.

btw, my offer is still open. I'll trade my OEM Bullitt steering wheel for a 2010 GT500 wheel. Flat trade. 3,200 miles on my car. steering wheel in great shape

when did they do that? I tried reading all the posts...but after 132...guess I missed that

so it sounds like the base radio doesn't have that option...more of a product ability vice feature disabled by programming

Post 100 lists where JWButler14 tested with a shaker and the controls worked, however, the volume was too low to be usable.

Although, I am disappointed I can't get the controls to work it's not THAT disappointing. This is due to the fact that I think that it is really BAD placement to put radio controls on the right side of the steering wheel. If the buttons were rectangles instead of curved I'd switch them and the wiring to the other side (so that the labels wouldn't be upside down). In my ex-Accord they were on the left side and my left hand was ALWAYS on the wheel at the controls... while my right hand was probably shifting. Oh well... I guess I'll have to wait until I get a new Head Unit. Ford dealerships are of no help!

Let us know if the air bag deploys unexpectedly.. LOL

The OEM radio is a module on the can buss and must be
'configured' by the dealer to utilize the steering wheel controls.
