Default car died on the highway.....help!!!

hey i was driving on the highway tonight on my mustang i just bought a month ago. All of a sudden the car started freaking out and had a battery low warning light and just died as soon as i came into an exit. After i called a couple friends we towed the car and poured some water on the apparently empty battery. Now i think its a bad alternator or something since after the car was jumped, the car made a really erratic sound on the way home. I'm not sure if its an electrical problem or just the battery, but the sound coming from the engine is making me think otherwise. its a 2006 mustang convertible v6 btw...

I had a similar thing happen to my Grand Am a few years ago. Had it checked and it was a bad alternator. Any auto place can check it for you. Usually pretty easy to replace I think I spent 40 bucks and a couple hours work.

Have you read the dozens upon dozens of threads on the forum regarding battery and alternator issues? If nothing else, you'll feel like you have plenty of company.

Then by all means read thru the stickies. You'll find an amazing amount of info as far as some of the chronic issues to be on the lookout for, including the dreaded water leak that can raise it's ugly head in a number of ways; mostly electrical glitches.

Besides the fact that our Stangs are typical of domestic car design and manufacturing, they're damn fun to drive! Enjoy modding!

Sounds like a faulty alternator or loose connection

hey i just replaced both the alternator and the battery...my wallet feels so empty now...400 dollars later. Now i have to replace the breaks...this feels like a bottomless pit and i haven't even modded anything yet. Please don't tempt my guys. I couldn't believe autozone charged nearly 250 for an alternator.

Did you buy this privately or from a dealership/lot?

Yeah I'm wondering that too. No offense, but it sounds like he got a car that a previous owner let run to crap.
