Exclamation Grind when clutch is engaged...

Hello all,

I'm in need of a bit of help, usually I problem solve my own issues and look through the forums but I'm really stuck on this one. So any help would be greatly be appreciated.

The problem lies in shifting from 2nd gear to 3rd. I've had this problem for a bit and the problem is isolated to that step. The really weird thing about it, this shift is fine below 3k to 3.5k revs but after that and going into 4k and with Wide Open Throttle... the shift, with full engagement to the floor (even if I do it slowly, not power shifting), grinds.

This does not happen with the other gears or other gear shifts no matter what the rev point or how much power is being applied.

What I like to know is, what is the problem, how it happened, how to avoid it, and the cheapest and best solution to address this problem.

What I think it is, it’s either the syncros are going bad or it could be something is wrong in the 3rd gate under stress. If it’s either, are they covered by warranty?

Thank you.

it might be covered if the car is still under
warranty, probably best to take it in.

If your car is still under warranty, and you haven't modified the tranny in any way, then it should still be covered. Like hammeron said, take it in. It does sound like a syncro though. My last stang had the same symtom, and it turned out to be a syncro. I had about three weeks left on that warranty, and they covered it.
