2010 subwoofer install help!
hello all!
I'm brand new to this forum and looking for some technical help
i've recently just purchased a brand new 2010 mustang - grabber blue -
i also recently purchased a 15" kicker competition subwoofer with a 2000 watt legacy amp and a wiring kit. just wondering if somebody can direct me as to how to remove the radio surround/how to run wires and hook it all up?

This is probably not much help; however, on the "Shaker" system, there is a discrete subwoofer out port. I don't have the schematic. Nonetheless, maybe something to investigate if you choose not to leverage off of the rear speaker wires.

I thought most people tapped into the rear speakers. I'm curious about the sub out port.

I installed a sub in my 2010. There was no way to get the stock shaker/SYNC head unit out with out taking most of the dash apart. I think they built the car around it. I had the unit unbolted but there is no slack to get to the connectors to unplug the unit.
As far as the sub out, everything I have seen and read says to get the sub signal from the stock shaker amps. I think it is preferred to get the signal before the amp and not after.
And you will need a device that will change the stock 5volt turn on lead to 12volt, I think PAC makes a unit for it. I didn't need a turn-on lead with the MTX amp and just tapped the rear speakers. It sounds great.

Your best bet is to use one of the Mtx re-qs, or JL audio Cleansweeps to get a good signal from the headunit. As the volume goes up in the factory units the bass output is lowered so it doesn't damage the factory speakers. The Re-q gives you an unaltered signal so you could get the best response out of your amp/sub setup. Cleensweep works the same but is way more expensive.
