For those of you who have used snow chains

I need chains too! If I'm going snowboarding at times they won't even let you drive up the mountain unless you have chains on your car whether you have snow tires or not! And considering its probably on 5-10 times out of the year that I will go up the mountain and more than likely only use them once...I hardly think its worth the cost of purchasing a full set of tires & rims. I have 20's with low pro tires...an suggestions?

If you can't go up without snow tires or chains I wouldn't take a rear wheel drive car up there chains or not. Find someone with four wheel drive or buy snow tires. Chains are not meant to work wheel on low profile tires. They would scratch up your rims.

This is kind of a dumb thread, IMO. Look, you don't need chains in Texas. Any freak snowstorm that dumps over 5 inches of snow will ground you, and no one will expect you to come to work or whatever in a blizzard. The only thing to be worried about is getting trapped in the middle of a storm, in which case you should find a place to stop and wait it out. Besides, chains are really NOT meant for our cars, and if you screw them up (or even if you don't) you may find them chewing away at your quarter and wheel. I would say just don't worry about it and make sure to pack some salt and an ice scraper for when the weather is at it's worst.
